Welcome to Season 2017

Welcome all to Season 2017! We officially get our club back from the Leeming Spartans this Saturday 1st April, with a scratch match and a couple of cup games being played this Sunday 2nd April.

Thanks to our hard working committee for putting in hours during the off season to ensure the club is raring to go. Goals are going up, line marking is being completed and the bar is getting stocked this week. Many of our teams have taken the opportunity off season to arrange sponsorship for new strips. We welcome new/ongoing sponsors:

  • Hunter Executive Search Consultants
  • Gunnersens
  • Ian’s Glass Service
  • Bullcreek Tavern
  • John Hughes Group
  • Liquor Barons Bullcreek

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome a new Amateur Premier League squad and Women’s Metropolitan Central side to LSSC from previous club North Lake. We are sure you will all fit in nicely and become a great part of our little community at LSSC.

The club have been maintaining regular correspondence with the City of Melville over the last few months to ensure all of our teams have sufficient grounds to train at whilst we await new floodlights at John Connell. We were initially advised that Peter Ellis (Leeming High School) would be available from the beginning of the season however have been thrown a curve ball with the City deciding to have both Peter Ellis and John Connell floodlight installations completed at the same time. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding with the current training allocations across various grounds. We are told that a kick-off meeting will be held by the City this week, with projects starting ASAP and estimated to take around 10 weeks.

We have our resident event organiser putting together plans for a season opener in our club rooms, so stay tuned for more info.

If you haven’t registered and/or paid yet, please ensure you do so prior to your first game. No pay, no play.

As always if you have any questions relating to the club please direct them to your team representative.

After many years of requesting and pleading with the City of Melville, our grounds are finally on their way to receiving a floodlight upgrade. You will notice that existing floodlights have already been removed at John Connell. Unfortunately it took for one of them to collapse  for them to be assessed and removed as they no longer meet Australian Standards, but the main thing now is it’s finally happening!

In discussion with the City of Melville, the following summarises the process:

  • A Council meeting was held 18/10/16. The Council submitted (in September) a Community Sports and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) grant application for a contribution to x4 floodlight installations at John Connell. Both pitches and public areas will be lit to a much higher standard.
  • The Council increased previous budget allocation to the project from $150,000 to $229,234 for 2017/2018, essentially meaning that all going well, the club will not be required to provide financial input for the project as originally expected. It should be noted however that it is expected the club will be charged for use of the new floodlights (amount unknown). Grant approvals will be released by the Department of Sports and Recreation in February 2017.
  • The City is progressing with two tenders for floodlight installations at Peter Ellis (Leeming SHS), expected to be installed by March 2017. It is envisaged that LSSC will train at Peter Ellis during the 2017 season. Games will continue to be played at John Connell. The City will be organising goals and pitch marking for training purposes. Further details to be worked through in the coming months.
  • Work on the tender for floodlights at John Connell has begun and the City aim to deliver the project as soon as possible.

Great news for our great club. I’m sure we’ll come across some teething issues as we work out the details of training etc until everything is finalised however I’m sure you’ll all agree that the end result will be well worth it.

Please speak to your Committee Team Representative if you have any queries which you’d liked raised at the next general meeting.

Cheers 🙂
